Food at Omaka
FOOD AT OMAKA
At Omaka camp the kids were in charge of the food.
At first I did not think that this would be a good idea. You, kids in the kitchen, mess, more mess etc…
Any way, it was GREAT!
This meant that the kids could have fantastic food!
My group, for example, had French toast for breakfast on one day and then bacon, eggs and hash browns the next!
I liked cooking for my group because I have only ever cooked for family, and these guys gave me loads of compliments and had no trouble devouring TWO bowls of crumble.
And, when I was cooking the BEH (bacon, eggs and Hashbrowns) I've never cooked bacon or eggs or Hashbrowns but my group said that it was great!
They couldn't tell that I'd never cooked those things before.
That is why I liked cooking for my group, they made me feel special because they liked my cooking. That was really nice for me.

Omaka camp
OMAKA CAMP.
As an escape from work or kids, come to Omaka campsite.
It has a beautiful river for tubing or to feed the friendly eels.
For the kids: loads of space to chuck a ball around or even a frisbee.
Flying fox a wee while away down the camp and a scout set up close to one of the many clearings.
Nice shady trees dotted everywhere, good to sit under and read or to relax and listen to the river burbling beside you.
Good kitchen and large dining area.
Loads of space to store food- includes two fridges for your use.
Heaps of space for tents or a selection of bunks for you to choose from.
At night the night sounds aren't disturbed by the sound of cars or city life. Listen to the wind in the trees or the rain on the windows or the sound of tranquil silence.
Also, the camp is very close to the ski-lake, which is great for swimming in, or, if you bought a kayak or paddleboard, it is lovely and calm for you to the enjoy!
So come and enjoy Omaka and treat yourself to some peace and tranquillity.

Orange Belt!
I passed my grading! WHOO HOO! :)
I'm now an orange belt, oh yeah!
I wasn't as nervous as my first grading-I knew what to expect, but what I wasn't expecting was the Sensei's to leave out one of the 3*minute sparring round/3*minute exercise round! But that was good- I really don't like the burpies/sparring.
Purple belt here I come-at the end of 2017! :)
P.S: I will upload a photo soon.

Kayaking
It was a horrible day.
And I was going to be kayaking.
Once we'd all sorted ourselves out, we hopped into the cars with mounting feelings of excitement and or nervousness.
We finally got to the river. We played some games to get ourselves all warmed up, but dear reader, you were probably there, if you go to loburn school. So I won't bore you with the minute details.
After these games, we got into the water with our kayaks and quite a bit of shouting from some of the girls. In my mind, I'm thinking; ''what's all the fuss about, it's just water and a bit of harmless algae.''
Then we played some more games, canoe polo, to get used to our boat, find their flaws and whatnot.
Anyway, a few minutes later, the first, (of many might I add) capsizing happened. I do believe that the person who upset the boat was Samuel.
After that we all learnt how to get back into a boat if it capsized. Not the hard way, of course.
And after all that kerfuffle, (and after the rain had stopped and turned into a boiling hot day!) we set off to begin a tedious 2 hours in (in some cases) stubborn boats and the splashes of Holly M trying to get people to fall out of their boat, especially Lachlan.
We saw lots of wildlife along the way when Holly was quiet. At about halfway, we saw some signets! And, of course the VERY protective parents (black swans) come with that package.
We also saw white baiters, some were nice and friendly, and the other, well lets just say he wasn't to happy when Haylley nudged Jess's boat's nose into the direction of his nets.
After that it was lunch.
And after that, it was another game of canoe polo. And attempt at Eskimo Kisses. Like a hongi, you might say, except we had to do it to the boat. This caused quite a few capsizing's and a bit more that a few screams.
The game after that caused even more shouts. We rafted up, and numbered off. Then, Chris would shout out to numbers and you had to swap boats. Without falling in. Lets say that quite a few people weren't successful with that last part. Including Mum.
A wee while after, with Jess still in a huff, we got the end of the road. I finally clambered out of my kayak and pulled it up to Mr. Priddy.
Then I changed into some nice clean DRY! (not that I capsized, because I didn't!) clothes. And listened to what Mr. Priddy and the instructors had to say. I then got all my stuff, hopped in the car and headed home.
And, that, was when I discovered that that I was wearing lucky red socks.
I had seriously sunburnt shins. ;)

Even though I couldn't do athletics today, (because of hip injuries) I still wanted to do my martial arts. And boy am I glad I did because it meant that I got my Yellow belt grading certificate! :)

Lake Daniels.
It was Thursday the 18th.
Today, the year 8’s would leave school at 2:00pm and drive to a car park 3.5 walking hours away from Lake Daniels.
I had had heaps of butterflies in my stomach, I had been so nervous, it had calmed me down slightly when I’d rung home and found out that Dad would be coming with us.
When we got to the car park, I'd changed into thermals and then had a nice dinner consisting of some: bacon and egg pie, pasta bake still warm, and pizza. YUM!
The Westport group arrived and had tea, when, we were on the move in two walking buses for the long night ahead.
It was wet, and damp and humid. I met three girls from Westport: Sydney, Shanell and Willow. They were nice and we kind stuck together in our own group.
Sydney almost had an asthma attack but Marcus lent her his puffer and she and I went up the fount of the group. She was fine after that.
About an hour away from the hut my left foot got covered in mulch and mud. Damn, oh well. By now we all had our head torches on and could see the moon shining bright, but not bright enough to penetrate the thick forest canopy.
When we arrived at the hut, the moon was shining on the lake creating an ethical appearance, awesome.
A lady called Mrs Potter made pikelets with cream and jam for a late night snack. Delicious!
The cream melted and went all over the floor.
I had the worst nights sleep EVER! Terrible, the snoring from the girls was horrendous! And the plastic
My breakfast was good though, creamed rice and fruit. Mmmm.
We started back at nine o'clock, soon after I'd told everyone that they have to look out for a black glove that I had lost on the track last night. The reward was two nut bars. Jack B found it and put it on a log and then Beau found it and gave it to me back at the car park, it was really cool walking the same track in the daytime because you could see everything in colour.
Back at the carpark we had lunch, then drove to another carpark on the side of the road and started to climb up the mountain side. We didn't get very far because of all the snow, knee deep and I speak from lots of experience falling into it. And the mud. And water. When we got to as far as we would go we were told some stories while looking out at a beautiful view of the mountains and the river. It was fantastic.
After that we, well, I, slipped and sledged my way back down, falling into mud and making Mum’s gloves disgusting on the way.
We tried to make snow men once back at the carpark, but the snow was more like ice. The Westport principal made us do the famous five, five press ups, which I can do, but not on mud in a nice clean white top!
I spent the drive home recuperating and playing I spy, Chinese whispers and the like.
When we got home it was about 5:30pm, I had dinner then a nice bath and went to bed.
It was a great experience and I loved it.
The keepers daughter.
This is the awesome book that I'm reading now.
Right now, she, Nyssa, has found her brother in Thira, he hasn't spoken and they, Nyssa, Maruiss and Aria think that he might be mute.
Great book.
I can't put a photo on because this has been posted from an iPad.
If you are able to, read this book!

Martial arts Grading for yellow belt success
Last Sunday, I did a grading for my hobby, martial arts.
I was really, really nervous, but that is probably due to the fact that it was only my first grading.
It was full of exercise and kick routines and press ups and sit-ups and jumping, spinning roundhouse kicks which I can't do, they must green belt or something.
Any way, sometimes us 4 white belts, sometimes we would sit out while the higher belts graded, and vice versa.
But in the end I passed, and I tell you what they made us (white belts) do.
Okay, white belts, come up here and kneel and close your eyes, do not open them or you could fail your test! (This was after everything else that I just said.)
Everyone else, go sit over there. Connor must have pointed over to the corner where I was sitting ‘cus I heard them all came and kneel next to me.
Okay, open your eyes now.
In front of each of us was a sheet, I had no idea what it was, but it was my grading sheet.
Okay, look behind you, and behind each of us was a yellow belt, we had all passed!
Take you white belts off and put your new belts on and stand up.
Leon and this other guy had got normal yellow belts that had a horizontal white stripe in the middle. Sam, an adult, had got a full yellow belt and he revived tips, which I guess is like bonus point.
Me smiling.I had been given a partial golden belt! This belt is a dark orange, yellow belt, I think it is the highest sub-belt in the yellow belt area, Vinny said that this was like my tips but instead I got this one. This made me feel immensely happy and proud.

Oh, part way through this screen cast this will have not much would, it will be me and Piper getting the Prezi to a different place.
So, this is my speech about adults/and their heads. I have changed the topic many, many times but have finally decided on this one, first it was adults and their lack of imagination, then, teenagers vs adults and so on. I hope that learn and enjoy something from my speech. 🙂🤔👍🏻

Lake Daniels.
At 2:00pm today the year 8's will leave for lake Daniels.
I'm very nervous and excited! As I'm writing this my stomach is doing backflips and making me feel queasy.
I hope Dad can make it, he's in Auckland at the moment, if he doesn't get pulled out on call he'll catch a plane and come down here to tramp with us. In fact, he probably be on a plane right now if he hasn't been called out.
I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow, we get to climb the Lewis pass tops track, Mr B says that that part is really fun. I'm not sure I believe him.
Wish me luck!
😰😪😳😦😁😰

Martial arts.
My martial arts is getting better, the grading is in one week!
It will go for about one hour on Sunday the 28/9/16. I'm really excited to become a yellow belt, Casey is going for full orange or purple I think. Good for her, Mich is going for full yellow I believe.
I'm really enjoying it and when mum gets a photo of me with a yellow belt, I'll post again with the photo, two more sessions! AHH, the pressure!

Maori week art. (Te wiki o te reo Maori)
These are some photos of the art that I have completed this week.
It pictures a mountain (maunga), a river (awa), a Mari and the sea.
The photos aren't that good, the cameras a bit fuzzy.
Come see the real thing in Team East.

The Power of Positivity! :)
Hello!
Today I'm going to be your awesome positivitest person, I don't know if that is a word but who cares!?
This is my guide on how to be positive!
Step one: go to bed early! Being positive might trier you out until it becomes habitual.
Step two: practice your genuine smile! When smiling, you have to be genuine for it to mean something!
Step three: say something nice to someone every day! This will make you and the other person feel good.
Step four: try not to think dirty thoughts; Yuck. I HATE what she's wearing. It makes her look fat.
Step five: do what makes YOU happy, not someone else.
Step six: do all of the above each day, and this will make you a very positive person.
Step seven: try to see the good in every single thing you do. Find the speck of light amid the darkness.
I have chosen these quote because I think they have meaning and moral to those who choose to be POSITIVE!!! :)
This is like this quote: if plan A didn't work, don't worry. The alphabet has 25 more letters. Stay cool.Wednesday, June 8, 2016
WPCA best experience writing.
My life so far has been dotted with the really fun things in life. Such as going to Australia.
WPCA has made those really fun things more often.
I LOVED ropes day, it was the best day of my life, and when I flew high into the sky on that beautiful day doing the flying kiwi, my feeling of happiness just exploded into the sky like a firework with me.
WPCA has opened up a bunch of new experiences for me and I have enjoyed the lot of them at at least one point. Ropes day is my favourite by far because it pushed me to my limits until I broke through those limits. Breaking those limits has opened up a whole new world of possibilities, and now I look at the world seeing opportunities at every corner with new eyes.
Like the other day, I was looking at some straws, and now, I'm in the process of making a wind-chime with them, WPCA has made a little bit more creative I think, and that, is really, really good!
Cave Stream was another favourite.
The worst thing: going down in my thermals to check the water level, then have to come back up. Then having to walk over to the other side of the hill and walk all the way down to the entrance of the best cave of my life.
The best thing: walking into the cave and having the water com up to my cease in a FREEZING wave of coldness. Also, seeing the formations that I thought you only find in an ice cave.
Hawdon hut was okay, the boulder hopping was my favourite part aside from finishing.
I also felt very special that I actually got to sit next to you, William, on the way there and back!
And that photo I got of you standing next to me is super special.
I can not wait until the Lake Daniel night tramp, I bet that that is going to be super fun! :)
Thank you WPCA for for opening a whole new world for me in your journey taking very one out of their comfort zone, you certainly made bash through the walls of my comfort zone and into the unknown!
Good luck and I hope you continue doing WPCA for a long, long time. :)
Does anyone have any feed back for me before I email this to William Pike?

Ropes Day.
Pre-Ropes Day Jitters
Ropes day made me feel excited, anxious and happy all in one go.
I thought I knew what the day would bring.
I was wrong.
Giant's Ladder
It was HUGE!!! It was eleven rungs tall with each rung getting wider and wider apart until you couldn't reach the next one. The very top was about 20 metres high but I didn't get any feeling of vertigo just extreme happiness and satisfaction when I conquered the ladder and reached the top. It felt awesome to be so high and it felt fabulous to have the support of my class mates!
Vertical Play Pen
There were five different stages of the vertical play pen. The hardest one for me was the net, constantly swinging out putting me off balance, but I hooked my arm over and sat on that seat about twenty five metres high, with a huge feeling of satisfaction bubbling under the surface of my tired façade.
The Flying Kiwi
This is how the Flying Kiwi worked. My group pulled on a rope in one direction while I ran in the opposite direction attached to the other end of the rope. Due to the laws of physics (and the fact that the pulley was way above my head) their efforts resulted in me flying like a bird without a care in the world! It felt amazing to be flying so high above the ground. It was the highlight of my day. I will never forget that feeling of immense happiness.
Feelings after
Ecstatic.
I don't know how to describe the feeling of happiness, pride, satisfaction and perseverance all rolled into one.
I was one extremely happy girl when I went home that wonderful day.I will never forget that day.

Community service.
I HAVE DONE 24 HOURS!
WOO HOO!
IT IS DONE!
I have finished the 20 hours of community service that we had to complete by the end of the year. I spent two or three afternoons a week at Little Ones Preschool helping out with the children. It was very handy for me as then I just had to ride my bike home as I usually do from school.
I enjoyed spending time with the little kids and even though I have completed my 20 hours I will still continue with some more hours but now the pressure is off and I don't have to worry about it any more. I will just keep on plugging away at it and then maybe, I'll get 30 hours done?!

Martial Arts.
I do Martial arts for my hobby.
I started doing martial arts because of last year, when the year 7 and 8 girls did the self defence 6 week long course and I really enjoyed that. So for my hobby, I decided to do martial arts and I really enjoy it and I now have a new friend called Casey, she is an orange belt, level 3.
I'm a white belt at the moment, but the next grading is in August and so then I will hopefully pass and become a yellow belt.
I really enjoy doing my martial arts, so maybe I'll continue in high-school.

Clubs
On Friday the 27th, we started clubs.
My club is Green Team.
I chose this club because I like stuff to do with the environment. Mrs Allaway is the teacher who runs the Green Team and I really like her as a teacher.
On the first club day, Nannet, who is Lachy's grandma, was in Piawaka. I got chosen to go with her and so did James J and Sophie P.
We made some mice.
I thought that these would be for the scarecrow, but no, we got to keep them!
They were so cute when we finished them! Dad said it looked reilistic that night.
I enjoyed the company of the younger kids and Nannet.
Also the friendly atmosphere was nice, and in general, nice people and activities, sad that I will miss next week's club afternoon because Year 8's are doing the WPCA High-Ropes day. :(
My goal for the next 4 weeks of clubs is to create some environmentally awesome creations. And enjoy what I make and put loads of effort into my work!

ANZAC presentation.
Do you want to know more about the Anzac's? Have a look at this awesome video! :)
This video covers: what the soldiers ate, the trenches, what they had to deal with and their daily life.
This is the screen castify of my ANZAC presentation. It is the screen-cast so make the sound is on, it is quite loud anyway so you should be fine.

X-country.
It was Thursday the 18th.
Today was X-country. I was to run 3km.
My goal was to not walk or stop,
I achieved that goal, and none of the boys passed me!
As soon as we got down to the domain, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of butterflies playing rugby in my stomach.
As the day went on, those butterflies turned into pigeons playing sky rugby in my stomach. Finally, it was 2:35pm, time for me to race. The year 8 girls lined up at the starting line, ready, set, GO! The clappers are the worst part of the race, being so loud and scarily close to your ears. They were off, haring away like there were being chased by wolves. I, on the other hand just gently jogged down the track like a hunter waiting for its prey to trier itself out.It turned quite hot while I was running, and that made me quite hot and tired even more.
While I was running, this thought kept on coming back up to the surface of my brain; you never have to do again. Just keep running! You never have to run this step again, or this step, or this one!
And it was nice to see mum and dad when I ran past the corner they were standing at. :) I finished my run with a sprint to the end and I'd come 8th. Second to last, but that doesn't matter. It was over! Finally, no more running! Well, at least until term four, then we do athletics. :(
The track I had to run was like this; around the bottom, up the top, going up to the top is where I passed Haylley and stayed in front of her until the end, she came 9th,
down into the forest, around the bottom and around the bottom again without the extra paddock.
I didn't enjoy having to do X-country, I never do!
But, at least I NEVER have to do it again!
At least, I don't think so...
Akaroa.
AKAROA
On the 23/2/16 after school, Dad, Keira and myself went to Akaroa. What a coincidence; it being a French settlement and at school we're learning about the Treaty of Waitangi.
Mum had gone up to Akaroa a day before with her parents so we would get to see them when we got up to Akaroa. It took forever!
We had a barbeque that night for tea, it was delicious. Then we all went to bed.
The next morning, I got out of bed at 9:20am, I was that tired.
Today was Keira's birthday. She turned 10! Mum and Dad wouldn't let Keira open her presents until I woke up. They ended up waking me up. We all went to Bullyhayes for lunch.
Before tea, Dad, Keira and I went fishing. I caught my first fish! Well, technically I foul hooked it, I got it near the tail. WOO HOO!!!!! :) After me, Dad caught one, he foul hooked it too, got it near the gills.
That same night, we had fish and chips for tea. After tea I went down to the wharf. It was high tide and part of the wharf was under water. I wanted to have a swim.
10 min later Dad came down to Keira and I at the wharf, 5 min later, we saw a sting ray- oh. Within the next 15 min, I saw another 2 sting rays, no swimming today! :(

After lunch, we all got in the cars and went home.

| Family time! :) |
But, before we got home, we all went to:
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL!!!
We weren't allowed to take photos, but, believe me it was amazing! I'm not going to describe it, because that would spoil the fun, but if you want, if you go to loburn school, come and ask me about it and I might tell you about some of it....
When we got home it was teeth and bed, we had had Subway on the way home. Finally a night that doesn't have cicadas buzzing in your ear, well, not IN your ear but out the window, you get what I mean.
